I just got Scud #21 about a week ago, and I must say. Second best comic book ever.

    You are a god.

If I was there, I would’ve totally fainted.
And then got back up, and tried to get your autograph.

Oh, and I’ve never read Scud before this either. So #21 got me hooked.
Please try to get the book with all 24 I think that was it? done as soon as you can

    THANK YOU.
    :D Ryu.

That was great. Such a happy little video. I wish I could have been there. (Speaking of: are you gonna be at
    NYCC, Rob?)

    Cool story:
I still have my t-shirt (the one the guy in this video made the patch from; mine’s way too big, as well :) from when I originally got it back in ‘95. In 1993, I had met Rob (I imagine he was(/you were) there, anyway; probably Harmon and some others, too) at my first con ever, in Philadelphia (where, interestingly, I currently reside). Having spent all our money already, my friend that I had come with and I stumbled upon the Scud table (I still have the little flyer “Table 318”; I remember being attracted to the life-sized Scud standee: Awesome) right before we left, and were blown away by what we saw while flipping through the first few issues. We explained that we were so sold we wanted to buy up every issue right then and there, but we were broke, and, being 13 years of age, had no credit card to use (and his mom, who had driven us down there from CT and was pulling the car around, wasn’t going to find parking and help us) . One of the Firemen Press gang gave us an order form for the first four issues (and the upcoming #5 (“Available for Christmas!”)), but it was “For store use only. Not open for private collectors.” We were told to give it to our local comic shop and then we could buy it through them, but, being young and foolish, I never did (though I did somehow manage to hang on to every little scrap of paper from said encounter). That is until 2 years later, when, reading the “Palmer’s Picks” column in Wizard magazine featuring our beloved book, it led me to dig out that old order form and write Fireman Press a letter, asking if the books were then available for private collectors, and if an awesome t-shirt from the back of that old order form (the image of which I had fallen in love with when I first laid eyes on it 2 years prior) was still available: I said I would pay whatever price asked (if it had gone up from $12, since), but I wanted it, no matter what the cost.

Two weeks later, the shirt arrived in a box in the mail; no note, no bill. Sweet!

The next day, a letter DID arrive:
    “Ethan,
We have issues 2-9 available now. You can get issue #1 in the HEAVY 3PO. We have the 2 T-shirts – The 3 color & B&W. Just like the designs A&B.
    Thanks!!”
Along with 3 copies of the latest “T-shirts and Stuff” order form, which I promptly ordered one of everything from (excluding the free t-shirt I’d just been sent, but INcluding the first printing of “3PO” signed by Schrab (woot!)).

    And that’s how I got my t-shirt.

That kind (but no doubt future-profit-ensuring ;) gesture, plus frequent correspondence with old Fireman Press friend Dave Friedel (and occasional correspondence with Harmon (and issues of “Fireman Press’ first bare bones newsletter, ‘The Burning Bush’”)), kept me a very happy fan who felt like he was along for the ride right there with the creators. These things (and, more currently, robschrab.com) have continued my love and respect for everything Scud/Schrab until this very day, some 15 years later.

So, thanks again, Rob (and all your cohorts, old and new), and keep the good stuff comin’!

    Signed,
    ~Mr. (Overuse of) Parentheses,

    Ethan Harper

My friend went down and got me an autographed copy (for my birthday even!) and it’s pretty awesome.

It got me so excited I drew this:http://whendidigrowup.livejournal.com/

Now I just have to steal cans from homeless people to buy the rest (that’s also my retirement plan).

Rob Schrab! I just saw the DuncanBros You-Tube video, “The Crystal Tape” and you’re in it! I’m seriously laughing my ass off. HAHAHA, good show man, good show…

    Long time Scud fan, cheers!

Woah, that dude was right; that Duncan Bros. ‘Crystal Tape’ video was awesome (Their ‘Overdrift’ is fucking HILARIOUS). They actually sound a lot like a young Schrab and Harmon (‘Dead Alewives’ era) in this one.

Funny, great stuff, and Schrab only makes it better :)

Awesome! Even after 10 years without any new issues, Scud still draws people in. That’s huge!

The internet is a weird emotional place. I have to say, Rob, that some of your hostility on this blog has shown through at times and has made me question my high school inspiration. Certainly you have a natural right to be angry at the nerds out there who can’t verbalize their criticism. But sometimes your anger has felt misdirected towards unsuspecting nerds saying somethin’ like “Wouldn’t it be cool if you made Scud do X in the next issue?” out of a fondness for the character and not necessarily suggesting what you’re doing is crap. And then I felt like you abandoned Scud for Hollywood and Sarah Silverman. I mad mixed feelings about the guy I looked up to artistically for so much of my youth.

But this string of video posts really redeems yourself with me. I really appreciate how sincere you seem and honestly explaining yourself having one of those bad days.

    Thank you.

I have 21 and 22 and I laughed out loud to see “TENNAPEL” as a sound effect.

I still wear my SCUD shirt from High School on occasion. I wasn’t old enough for a credit card back then, but I distinctly remember writing a check from my own book of checks that was always in my parents posession.

I’m looking forward to the end and the future.

    Thanks again.

    Bob,

all I can say is: “I’m only human.” Inspiration or not, I’m just a guy like you doing the best he can.

I hear ya. I do like to think as people as people just doing what they love and I try to avoid putting ‘em on pedestals. But my innocent youth was at stake here! over-dramatization Anyway, much obliged Rob!

    Rob,

I’m definately going to get one of those Scud action figures in NYC but are you actually going to be there? I’d buy a bunch if you were there to sign them… Also are they still releasing Scud action figures to stores? im confused cause they say theyre limited to 400 but i thought they were releasing them to comic shops…. are there different figures coming out?

Hope to see you on this coast some time!
    Shawn
