It’s great! 9 minutes left—Loved the animated sequence. Whoops, the Ghost Rider trailer is on. However, for the sake of not missing the show, I’ll stay tuned in.
Awesome! Steve Agee vomiting was hilarious, that never gets old. The drawless animation was a nice Schrab touch as was the Robot Bastard poster. Great work cant wait to see the rest!
The minute that car turned into cardboard, I said, “THIS is pure Schrab!” I went out and bought a second-hand VCR just to record this show. I can’t see how anyone else could follow your run. (possible exception: Dan Harmon)
holy carp! there’s something on tv to watch besides “to catch a predator”. kudos boss. loved the cameo of the dinosaur from “roses are free” and the pirate (crooked teeth, ringwald & molly). You were cool in it too…you were the guy complaining about the noise, weren’t you?
the wait paid off. this show is my new favorite anything.
and the animation was key in my favorite process. the entire episode felt animated. looking forward to see more of your work on series.
Hey rob. the show was pretty good. keep up with your scud vlog. it helps keep me motivated to work on my book. wait til you see the scud ad it is fantastic.
i loved the show and when i saw the robot bastard poster it sent me on a search to find out what the connection was. i first watched robot bastard on gbstv they allso play r_and_m. so seeing it on sarah silvermans show was rely odd i yelled at the other ppl in the room saying (did you see that. the poster what did it say).well now that i know who you are ill stop by here agen. good job on the show
I liked Jesus is Magic, but I thought this show far surpassed it. I loved the flying car sequence, and also when she burst through Chris Tallman’s Bluescreen.
I always wondered, how did you come up with the drawless animation style? Was it a visual concept you had in mind all along? Or did you originally plan to do the Roses are Free video in stop motion but used the puppets to save time?
I watched Sarah Silverman’s show last night and thought it was was phenomenal. OK, there were a lot of ka-ka jokes. But the humor was fresh, new, twisted. The writing was really fabulous.
Rob, the show was amazing. i peed a little. the scene where sarah was in the car doing voice-overs for the cop and her sister reminded me of the voice-over you did of star wars when we were kids. steve and i lauged watched that for weeks. you still have that video? you should post that on you-tube. “your dick is this big”. ahahaha.. love it man. you are one talented Mother-banger.
I liked Steve Agee as the anti-stereotype gay. Sarah is fun to look at but I don’t like her character being so psycho. It makes her feel like the Kramer of the show in the lead.
I liked every bit of “normal” you put in this episode to ground it in reality, the weatherman (Tallman!), the cop and his relationship with her sister. The normal camera work was great when shooting conversations between the girls was impressive. That’s the stuff that shows you can directl…it’s like in animation, the hardest thing to draw is a character just doing a normal walk across the room.
My favorite scene was when she talked to Doug the dog…you fill a screen with a cute dog’s face and I can’t resist laughing or saying, “Awww!” Plus Sarah’s improv after the dog yawned shows serendipity was on your side.
Any chance of the show being for sale on iTunes? Thanks again doing the interview on Inside Mac Radio. The show should be available by 2/5/07 for download. Subscribe at: http://www.insidemacradio.com
It was great Rob. Loved seeing the Channel 101 presence (Agee, Tallman, what I assume was a Justin Roiland cookie party animation), and how you peppered yourself throughout the episode. Can’t wait for the next episode.
The show was exceptionally funny, for so many reasons. I especially liked all the channel 101 people popping up, like Justin Roiland’s little toon and Tallman as the weather guy. And the drawless animation sequence was really nicely done. Keep up the good work Schrab, can’t wait for the Scud book.
Off topic, but I’m looking to do a retro sci-fi movie for film class. Could you maybe point me in the right direction. (Websites, books, and such, on cheep affordable special effects) You posted a vid with Leonard Nimoy once…and I’m using the rocket effect from that for sure.
Looking at the credits I think Sevan did the cookie party animation, not Justin Roiland… to be safe I guess you could just call it a Comic Sacrifice animation.
Hey, Rob, loved the Ep…Especially the Drawless™ Animation sequence. Do you have any plans to show us more of your process? I’d love to see the creation of one of your videos/sequences from animatic to final product. I’m a big nerd so I love seeing how things are made. I makes me appreciate the final project so much more.
Keep up the good work. I’m hooked on this show, so I can’t wait to see what else is in store.
This Sunday the LA Times did a huge piece on The Sarah Silverman show (my wife noticed Rob got ripped off from any ink but that’s to be expected from TV directing) and the articles cited the show as the savior of Comedy Central’s lagging innovation over the last few years.
We downloaded it from XBOX LIVE, and it was great!! (And I dig the Rob photo in the opening song.) Excellent work as always, Rob. Watching the show reminded me how much I loved Sarah in that opening scene from WAY OF THE GUN.
Hey Rob, I watched the show without knowing you had directed. As soon as the cough syrup sequence kicked in I KNEW that only ONE guy in Hollywoodland could have done it! THEN to find out you DIRECTED the whole show as well!! It was great!! I LOVED seeing so many 101 folks connectioned. Now I definately want to see more!!
Hey Rob, love the show. I was wondering if you could tell me where I can get that “I play golf” t-shirt that that guy is wearing in one of the intros. Thanks!
I nearly piss myself everytime the commercial comes on comedy central. Can’t wait to see it.
sarah silverman inspired me to go to medical school.
I don’t get the channel so…I’ll have to download it. Sorry, dude. I won’t be helping pay your rent.
Very favorable review at AICN:

great show rob. definitely a warm feeling about this. dug your cameo and that robot bastard poster.
are there going to be more featured sequences by you in this? also, how many more episodes are you directing or is this just the one?
I LOVED IT!

This show is going to be huge!!!!
Thanks, everyone. I directed the episode that runs next week. You’ll should notice some Schrabbiness in that one too.

I should have yelled “Where’s the Mountain Dew?”
the wait paid off. this show is my new favorite anything.

Although it’s already been said, I loved the animated sequence. The show was hilarious. “I’m totally gay for you.” That line cracks me up.

Hey anyone know what the overnigh numbers were on the show???? It had the best timeslot on comedy central.
they were good.
I made this animatic before shooting the final for the premeire episode of the Sarah Silverman Program.
I posted this to show step one of the “Draw-less Animation” Process.
It’s always good to know exactly where your going with a scene and all the elements BEFORE you shoot. You can NEVER be too prepared.
The Final product:

-Kicked more ass than God intended
-Had to watch it twice.
-Why does Sarah remind me of my crazy ex-girlfriend?

Whoops it’s on iTunes already! Awesome!
Only saw the clip on comedy centrals website, yeah im too poor to afford real TV.
Although it kinda makes me wonder… how much of Robs creativity is inspired by dissociation.
Keep up the phenomenal work. I’m gonna have to convince someone to watch next weeks show.

Buy as many issues of Cinemagic magazine on ebay as you can. Brilliant.

where can i get an “i play golf” t-shirt
