My guess is it’s not really rated PG.

So, I saw Monster House last weekend. (In 3D! Ooooooo!)

It was a great film… but left something to be desired that I couldn’t put my finger on. Just now I ran across the production art for the film and I think I know what it is!

The 3D animation process that they used, sucked all the life out of the art! :p

Don’t get me wrong, I love 3D animation… in the right hands. But something just got botched up here.

Never-the-less (and please don’t read this as back-handed!), I would like to congratulate Mr. Schrab on a brilliant story on a very successful picture that I hope will open some doors for you! I’d love to see more of your work… a little less filtered. ;)

Monster Ho, sounds like a great concept for Shawn and Marlon Wayans’ next film.

Everyone is giving praise but I must admit, I’m jealous. Jealous enough to say congrats on the break through Schrab.

    Hey Rob.

I saw you on Tech TV a while back and have made a monthly trip to your website since then to see what’s new. I loved the Heat Vision and Jack pilot and I really like your sketches.

When I saw you mention somewhere on the site that you were involved in Monster House I made sure to keep on eye on it. I just took my mom and little brother to see it yesterday.

I’m not sure how much is you and how much is the rewrite, but what ever happened worked out. It was a fantastic movie. It felt like someone threw a Tim Burton movie in the middle of a Norman Rockwell painting. I really liked the characters and the setting, I kinda felt sad that there’s no foreseeable way for any future project to revisit it though, since they kind of ended when the movie ends. It’s not really sequel or franchise material, but it was really enjoyable while it lasted.

The original concept of the house itself was really clever. Its one of those seemingly familiar but still completely new ideas that makes you think “I can’t believe no one’s done this before. Has anyone done this before? I don’t remember seeing something like this before.” And the way it was explained was great. The back story was sweet and sad, even if we only saw a glimpse of it. It ultimately all made sense too, like the narrative’s explanation kind of tugged on a string that eventually lead back to one of the “acceptable” explanations of supernatural events (in this case “A poltergeist did it”).

One of the things I liked the most about the movie was the way the kids were responding to the situation. The water-guns and vacuum cleaner dummy and crawling around. It all felt like the things you’d do as a kid when you were having make-believe ‘wars’. The only difference is that when you did those things as a kid you always kind of wished that the danger was real, and in this scenario it was. Something about it felt really nostalgic.

Usually when I see a movie at the theatre I need to go to the restroom at least twice before it’s over, but this one made me endure the searing pain, just to make sure I didn’t miss any of it. I’m definitely looking forward to getting the DVD, and any other major projects that the success of this movie might allow you to work on.

    Good luck.

At Least! Monster House in Spain! I watched the movie today… Really cool, it starts a little bit slow but at the end you will amazed. I like the animation, in some situations at the end the house moves like a stop-motion house! I´ll get it in DVD, and I´ll try to get the score too…

I´m happy to see some quotes by you in spanish magazines, hope we will get more things on the big screen about Rob Schrab :)
